We are all here for a purpose and I always felt my responsibility in serving others to have contributed in some ways to make my life meaningful else there is no value living only for yourself. This always gave me a desire to start up an NGO once am financially stable so as not to depend on other external resources. If I was given a chance to start up an NGO I would concentrate on the old age homes. I personally chose this compared to the opting for orphans, or physically disabled because in our Nation still substantial work is being done on those but the helpless people are majorly neglected as neither Government nor their own children take care of them.
• Old age homes need to be expanded in number since the old people need love especially at that age when they feel rejected. Importance has to be paid to their health, food habits, exercise etc.
• Old people suffer from terrible depression which is just overlooked because they are old and it is normal, but NO we are responsible for this depression as it becomes our responsibilities to take care of our parents just the way they did for us unconditionally and at this age when they lose friends and spouse, thus get more lonely it becomes our major concern to comfort them to the most.
• Many children drive away their parents considering them and their medical expenses as a burden, this makes the person feel too miserable about his own self and he being helpless may land up into suicides or accept destiny and lead terrible lives. But what was this person’s fault? That he is old now, so we put his sufferings as his Destiny while he waits to see death as soon as possible rather than enjoying a time relaxing and spending with his grand children
• After working selflessly for years to comfort the family and even being ready to give off the last penny of savings to their children, when their time comes they realize that they were fools to have done so much for their undeserving children and now these parents are left half way with their physical strength not letting them work nor do they have an alternative way!
• The last few years are supposed to be to sit back and relax after a long race in life, so building up an old age home can get many same aged people to have company and enjoy their days in their ways with the same age group.
Bearing these issues in mind I strongly desire to start up an NGO to do with the Old People and my basic objective would be to make them enjoy till their last breath and retirement should be a relaxation time for them. Funds are a major concern and I think an annual nominal fee paid by the children would serve the purpose and the health insurance would cover the medical expenses after a tie up for all the Old People. Nutritious food, a healthy and clean environment with ample space to breathe fresh air can’t be neglected. The atmosphere should be friendly with love all around and there needs to be ample space given to every individual to chose whatever he wants to do. Donations by various companies and individuals also are a trend these days with the improvement in Economy that people are ready to donate to the right people as an act of generosity and good will. These funds when managed honestly and sincerely can prove to be sufficient to regulate the Old Age Home. It is love and care that a human being ultimately wants and care should be taken to make these people feel at home and forget even if their children didn’t want them just to realize they are leading a better life here. Counseling could also be arranged to ensure every single individual is mentally fit!
